THE AIMS OF THE LYCEUM
  The aims of the Lyceum have been thoughtfully framed and we all do our best to live up to them. It's our proud boast that our pupils leave for further education at the University. The best part of our graduates study at Kyiv National Shevtchenko University, Kyiv State Linguistic University, National Technical University, Institute of International Relations, National Academy of Management and others. Many of our graduates continue their higher education at the best world's Universities: Oxford University, Columbia University, Fulton University, London School of Business, Zagreb University, Westminster University, London University, etc.
  We believe that they leave us as worthwhile, caring young adults who have much to offer society.
    The school aims to help its pupils:
  • to acquire knowledge, skills and practical abilities and the will to use and develop them effectively;
  • to live in the global society;
  • to develop qualities of mind, body, spirit, feeling, imagination and the ability to express their experience, emotions and thoughts in a variety of ways;
  • to develop a critical appreciation of human achievements in all fields, including science, literature, economics, art, sports and aesthetics, and a respect and concern for the physical environment;
  • to find understanding and respect for moral values, for other races, religions and life styles and the need for justice in a shared world;
  • to prepare for adult life at home, at work, at leisure and at large, as future parents and citizens;
  • to develop self respect, the capacity to live happily as independent, success oriented, self-motivated adults, as caring, tolerant, and responsible contributing members of co-operating groups.
  Each pupil is moving forward according to age and ability in all these ways. Provision is made for the gifted children.

STRATEGY
  Sound learning is given high priority at all levels of the Lyceum. It has a reputation for academic excellence, and the many prominent scientists, politicians, businessmen who graduated from our school, are living evidence of this. Pupils are encouraged to make the most of their abilities, and individual progress is closely monitored.
  At the same time the Lyceum takes the view that children learn best when they are themselves keen to learn. It recognizes, too, that much of life's learning will take place in later life, provided that young people have developed a sense of curiosity and a capacity to think for themselves.
  Education must be closely concerned with the development of self-confidence and this comes from the learning of competence in practical ways and from the growth of self-reliance and independence.
  Children are given a sound academic grounding, but they are extended in many other directions as well in the creative arts, upon the sporting fields and in their overall development as persons. A balance is maintained between the needs of the individual and the contribution which children can make to the school community as a whole. Our responsibilities, policies and methods are based on the latest achievements of pedagogical science and are modified through practice.
  The instructional strategies emphasize diagnosis, prescription, and evaluation as basic to each student's and instructional program. Activities and programs emphasize problem-solving techniques, creative exploration, and independent learning. The curriculum, worked out by our staff, expands the range of educational experiences.

WE AND UNESCO
  Our school participates in the UNESCO Associated Schools Project (ASPnet). UNESCO Schools appeared more than 30 years ago.
  The UNESCO Associated Schools Project (ASPnet) aims at mobilizing schools throughout the world with the view of undertaking pilot projects to strengthen the role of education in promoting peace and tolerance. Creation of an international school network and exchange of materials, methods, teachers and students is an integral part of the ASPnet activities.
  There are 22 UNESCO Associated Schools in Ukraine and 10 of them are situated in Kyiv. Our school had already got great experience of international co-operation when it joined ASP in 1997. In October 1999 the 11th grade pupil Olga Chala participated in the work of the World Children's Parliament in Paris. In late 50s the Club of the International Friendship was created. It established professional partner relations with Poland and Czechoslovakia.
  It was great honour and pleasure for us that Federiko Mayor, UNESCO General Director gave us the UNESCO Associated Schools certificate during his official visit to Ukraine.

STRUCTURE
  This academic year 932 pupils study in 31 forms. Each level of studying includes 3 forms. The language of the instruction is Ukrainian.
  At the first stage (Primary school, 1st - 3d forms) and at the second stage (5th - 7th forms) children are taught according to the curriculum of the Intensive English Language School. The third stage of education (Lyceum, 8th - 11th forms) comprises three departments: the Humanities, the Natural Sciences, and the Law department. Students can choose any of them according to their needs, interests, abilities and future profession. All departments provide the intensive English language studies.

On the whole students have 13 lessons of foreign languages a week. Pupils of the Humanity Department study French and German for communicative purposes.
  The Law Department offers the more intensive education in the field of history and the bases of Law. The department has additional lessons of history (beginning from the 8th form) and of Law (beginning from the 9th form). The core subjects at the department are English and Law.
  The Natural Sciences Department offers education for those pupils, who show a particular interest in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics. The extra lessons of Mathematics and Physics (beginning from the 8th form) and Computer studies (from the 10th form) are introduced.
